Becoming Someone New: The Art of Conscious Identity Change
In today’s heartfelt solo episode, I invite you to reflect on the stories you’ve been living by—the ones that shape how you see yourself, what you believe you’re capable of, and ultimately, the results you create in your life.
We dig into the idea that your story isn’t really about who you truly are, but rather who you’ve been up until now. These stories are often inherited from family, society, culture, and life experiences, rather than consciously chosen by you.
I explore how these deep-seated narratives, though largely unconscious, can serve us—or sabotage us—especially when we find ourselves wanting something different or feeling out of sync with our own lives. I share insights into why midlife, and the “autumn season” of our lives, is the perfect time to pause, let go, and intentionally choose who you want to become next. Just like trees gracefully releasing their leaves, we can release identities and beliefs that no longer serve us, knowing they make space for new growth.
I guide you through ways you can recognize these stories by noticing the words you use, the actions you take, and the beliefs you hold about what’s possible for you. We talk about the emotional weight these stories can carry, and how they create comfort zones, limitations, and so-called “expectation ceilings” that keep us playing smaller than we truly desire.
This episode also covers a practical three-step process for rewriting your narrative: acceptance (acknowledging you’re not broken, just using outdated strategies), practice (becoming who you want to be through repeated action), and awareness (catching old patterns and choosing new, kinder ones in the moment). If you feel called, I encourage you to write down one story holding you back, examine its truth, and reframe it as, “I’m now someone who’s learning to…”—embracing your growth with grace and compassion.
